Successful Organization of "Fire Safety Week" at AIIMS Raipur Theme: "Unite to Ignite, A Fire-Safe India" In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, AIIMS Raipur organized Fire Safety Week from April 21 to April 25, 2025. This week is commemorated in memory of the 66 brave firefighters who lost their lives during the Bombay Dock Explosion on April 14, 1944. A day now marked across India as National Fire Service Day The theme for this year was: "Unite to Ignite, A Fire-Safe India", aimed at raising widespread awareness on fire safety practices among the public and healthcare professionals. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Lieutenant General Ashok Jindal (Executive Director and CEO) of AIIMS Raipur, as the Chief Guest, and Smt. Anima S. Kujur (Divisional Commandant, Homeguard Fire and Emergency Services, Raipur, Chhattisgarh), as the Guest of Honour. They were welcomed with floral bouquets and mementoes by Security Officer and Professor Dr. Manish J. Raghani. Another distinguished guest, Colonel Susanta Sekher Bose, Superintendent Engineer, was welcomed by Mr. Aishwarya Dewangan, Assignment Manager (Fire). Dr. Manish J. Raghani was also welcomed by Assistant Security Officer Mr. Vipin Kushwaha. Director Lieutenant General Ashok Jindal Sir gave his valuable insights in this program, also Smt. Anima S. Kujur Madam shared her rich experience with the audience of program. Throughout the week, several engaging activities were organized, including a Poster Making Competition, a Quiz Competition, and a Fire Drill. To boost morale and to encourage active participation in fire safety initiatives, the Executive Director and the Security Officer distributed prizes to the firefighting team and recognizes their efforts. As a part of the event, a Mock Drill was conducted by the fire personnel to demonstrate real-time rescue measures during fire emergencies. The primary goal of this program was to spread fire safety awareness through trained volunteers called Agni Mitras (Fire Friends). During the event, all departmental heads were encouraged to appoint Agni Mitras within their respective teams to ensure immediate and effective response during emergencies. Roles and responsibilities of Agni Mitras includes: Assisting in rescue and evacuation to the Assembly Point during a fire incident; Being well-versed in Code Red protocols and guiding others; Operating fire extinguishers and ensuring their functionality; Understanding and monitoring the fire alarm systems; Communicating with the Fire Control Room(0771-2577288); Participating in monthly fire safety training sessions; Encouraging nursing staff, hospital attendants, etc.to take part in regular fire training. The event highlighted the critical role of every staff member in fostering a culture of safety, vigilance, and responsibility in the hospital environment. This week was not just a formal observance but a meaningful initiative to promote vigilance, dedication, and a culture of safety among all staff members at AIIMS Raipur.
